Sisterhood’s Torah Fund of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism event, will be held on Wednesday evening, May 9. It will focus on Zacharias Frankel College, part of Potsdam University in Germany, where a Conservative rabbi, by the name of Nitzan Stein Kokin, recently was ordained at the College; this was a startling event, because it was the first ordination of a Conservative rabbi in Germany since the Holocaust. The college receives support from the Torah Fund campaign.

Dr. Michael Steinlauf

The program on May 9 will begin at 6 pm with a presentation on “Polish Jews: Tiny Rebirth” by Gratz College Associate Professor of History, Dr. Michael Steinlauf, and a Polish-inspired supper, including zrazy (stewed Polish beef roll-ups), Polish roasted potatoes, czerwana kapusta zasmazina (Polish sweet and sour cabbage) and more. The evening also will feature a tribute to our two Woman of Achievement honorees, Regina (Reggie) Maizel and Karen Berger, for their dedication to Torah Fund, MBIEE Sisterhood, our congregation and the Jewish community.

An invitation to this unique event requires only a gift of $18 (chai) or more to MBIEE Sisterhood’s Torah Fund campaign. Invitation packets will be sent to MBIEE congregants and will include information about the options for patron gifts, including gifts in honor of Reggie and Karen. MBIEE Sisterhood members who contribute eight chai ($144) or higher will be invited to a VIP Reception at 4:30 pm. Those attending the VIP Reception will have the extraordinary opportunity to Skype with Rabbi Kokin from his office in Potsdam. Our special nosh will be Austrian-style vegetables. Please also note that a beautiful pin/pendant on the Mah Tovu theme is this year’s thank you gift from Women’s League for benefactor donors who make a Torah Fund gift of 10 chai ($180).

For more information, contact Ariana Burrows, Torah Fund Chair, through the MBIEE office.
