Sukkot Congregational Dinner
We are pleased to announce that this Sukkot, Friday evening October 18 at 5:45 pm, MBIEE is beginning a wonderful new tradition. We will honor our immediate past president at a dinner following services. It is an opportunity to say thank you and to acknowledge and recognize the enormous time and effort our presidents give to our MBIEE community.
This year we honor Ronald Goldman, who served as MBIEE president 2017-2019. Ron served with enthusiasm, integrity and wisdom, leading the synagogue through challenging transitions and a period of steady growth. We all appreciate Ron’s vision and perspective.
Ron grew up in West Philadelphia where his family belonged to B’nai Aaron Synagogue. He graduated from pharmacy school in 1955 and worked as a pharmacist until his retirement in 2010. For 36 years he owned the Castor Avenue Pharmacy. While Ron and his family were members of Shaare Shamayaim in the mid 1970s, his wife Libby took a job as secretary of MBIEE, where they felt a sense of belonging and made good friendships. The Goldmans became members of MBIEE 12 years ago.
“I enjoyed the challenge of trying to make things improve, and to increase the membership,” Ron says of his tenure as president. “Melrose has become a known entity.” Characteristically modest, Ron is quick to point out the people he worked with on the board, and their contributions. Many will continue on under our new president, Fran Sion.
Ron and Libby truly live the message of what Melrose is all about. It embodies an affirmation of each person. It is about the importance of relationships, about goodness and about listening. It is about faith. It is about determination, and doing the best we can.
Happily, and true to form, Ron’s involvement has not lessened now that he is no longer president. He remains on our Board and Executive Committee as Immediate Past President. Of course, you will see him at Saturday and Festival services, and all synagogue events and activities. It is a lifestyle for him.
Ron and Libby have three children: Penny (Dr. Steven) Goldstein of Orlando, Marci (Steven) Laderman of Holland, PA, and Rabbi Alan (Missy) Goldman of Israel. They also have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Please join us for a lovely Sukkot/Shabbat catered dinner honoring Ron. The cost is $18 per person. Reservations can be made by calling the synagogue office.
